World of Warcraft Classic rebuilds Azeroth as it was in the game's early years, with slower leveling, the original races and classes, and dungeons and raids tuned for coordinated groups. It runs on its own realms, separate from the current retail game, with its own characters and economy.
Blizzard groups several rulesets under the Classic name. Classic Era keeps the original game with all of its content unlocked, and Hardcore realms add permadeath, so a character that dies is gone for good. Progression realms move through later expansions in order and currently run Mists of Pandaria Classic. Anniversary realms started fresh in late 2024 and have advanced into The Burning Crusade. Season of Discovery adds runes that give classes new abilities and reworks older raids; its development has ended, but its realms stay open.
The game is included with a standard World of Warcraft subscription or game time, so one plan covers both the retail and Classic versions.
