World of Warcraft

Blizzard's subscription MMORPG set in Azeroth, with questing, dungeons, raids and PvP across two decades of expansions, plus WoW Classic.

Overview

World of Warcraft is a fantasy MMORPG from Blizzard Entertainment, released in 2004 and set in Azeroth, the world of the Warcraft strategy games. Players join the Alliance or the Horde, pick a race and class, and level through zones full of quests before reaching the current expansion's content. The most recent expansion is Midnight.

At maximum level, play centers on Mythic+ dungeons, raids with several difficulty settings, delves for small groups or solo players, rated PvP, professions and an auction house economy. Guilds organize raiding and social life, and seasonal updates refresh the endgame.

WoW runs on Windows and macOS and needs a monthly subscription to play beyond a limited free trial; the same subscription covers the WoW Classic versions. Expansions are bought separately, and the shop sells mounts, pets, services and WoW Tokens that can be traded for gold or game time.
