Overview

Guild Wars 2 is set in Tyria, a fantasy world threatened by elder dragons, some 250 years after the original Guild Wars. Instead of quest-givers, maps are full of dynamic events that anyone nearby can join and that change the area depending on whether they succeed.

Players pick one of nine professions and five races, and combat is action-oriented with dodging and weapon-based skill bars. The level cap has stayed at 80 since launch, so expansions add new maps, mounts, masteries and elite specializations rather than gear resets. Endgame includes fractals, strike missions, raids, structured PvP and World vs. World battles between large server teams.

The core game is free to play with some account limits. Expansions are one-time purchases, and a gem store sells cosmetics and conveniences; gems can also be exchanged for in-game gold.
