Overview

Materia Magica is a text fantasy MUD set in Alyria. It began in 1996 under the name Moongate and has been updated with new quests, areas and systems since then.

New characters choose from 14 races and 15 classes, then explore, fight, cast spells and take on quests. Longer-term goals include buying and furnishing a home, joining a clan, dueling other adventurers and playing in-game games. The staff place a strong emphasis on making the game work well for blind and visually impaired players.

The game is free to play. An optional subscription ($11.99 per month) adds monthly Reward Units and exclusive content, and Reward Units can also be bought outright to spend in in-game shops on items, housing points and companions. Players sign in on the official site to play.
