Overview

GemStone IV is a fantasy text MMORPG set in the world of Elanthia. The current version went live in November 2003, continuing a series of GemStone games that began in 1988.

Players choose a race and profession, then train skills, hunt creatures, cast spells from various spell circles and gather treasure. The game puts a lot of weight on roleplay and on live events run by GameMasters, including merchant events, festivals and an arena. Player-run merchants and an active trading scene shape the economy.

GemStone IV can be played free, with paid premium tiers and an online store for extra services and items. Players connect through Simutronics' own client software or third-party MUD clients after creating an account on play.net.
