Overview

Goodgame Empire casts players as the lord of a medieval castle. You build up the keep and its economy, recruit soldiers, research upgrades and send attacks against robber barons and other players, while walls, gates and defensive tools protect your own holdings.

Alliances are the social core: members support each other in fights, take on alliance events and compete in rankings. Seasonal kingdoms, special event worlds and a steady stream of limited-time events give long-term players goals beyond expanding their castle.

The game first went live as a beta in August 2011 and plays in the browser, with a Steam release added in 2026. Goodgame Studios runs a related mobile game, Empire: Four Kingdoms. Goodgame Empire is free to play, with rubies sold for speed-ups, equipment and other items.
