Overview

Black Desert is a fantasy MMORPG from the South Korean studio Pearl Abyss, first released in Korea in 2015 and now published by Pearl Abyss itself in the West. The PC game runs on Windows; a separate console edition exists for PlayStation and Xbox, and Black Desert Mobile is a different game.

Combat is real-time and combo-driven, with many classes that each have awakening and succession paths. Outside of fighting, a large share of play goes into life skills: gathering, cooking, alchemy, fishing, trading goods between towns, breeding horses and running worker-powered node networks. Gear enhancement carries risk of failure and is a long-term goal.

Guilds fight in scheduled node and siege wars, and open-world PvP is possible after a level threshold. On PC the game is buy-to-play in English-speaking regions at a low price, with a cash shop for cosmetics, pets and convenience items.
