Aetolia

Dark fantasy MUD from Iron Realms where vampires, necromancers and holy orders vie for control of a world in its Midnight Age.

Overview

Aetolia, the Midnight Age is a text MUD with a gothic, dark fantasy tone. Characters can be heroes or villains of any creed, joining cities and guilds whose goals often put them in direct conflict, including vampire and undead factions.

Day-to-day play mixes hunting through class-specific hunting trees, questing, crafting and roleplay, with regular staff-run events and contests. The class list is large, and player-versus-player combat follows the Iron Realms affliction-and-cure model, so organized raids and duels are common.

Aetolia launched in 2001 and is played free in the Nexus browser client, the Nexus mobile app, or a desktop MUD client. Iron Realms funds it through optional credit purchases and paid memberships. A wiki, news posts and in-game logs help new players learn the world's long history.
