Overview

Ragnarok Online is a fantasy MMORPG based on the Korean comic Ragnarok. Characters are 2D sprites set in 3D environments, and every player starts as a Novice before moving through a branching tree of jobs such as Swordman, Mage, Acolyte and their later advanced forms.

Day-to-day play revolves around grinding experience in fields and dungeons, hunting rare boss monsters, collecting cards that socket into equipment, and trading through player-run vending shops. Guilds compete in the War of Emperium, a scheduled castle siege event that is the main end-game PvP activity.

The English-language service (iRO) is run by Gravity Interactive and is free to play, with a Kafra Shop for paid items and optional VIP packages. The game first launched in South Korea in 2002, and the international server still receives weekly patches, events and collaborations.
