Popmundo

Popmundo is a text-based browser roleplaying game set in a simulated music world modeled on real cities. It is developed by the Swedish company ExtraLives AB and has been online since 2004. Each player starts as an unknown character and tries to build a career as a musician, though many choose other paths such as regular jobs, running a business or local politics.

The game runs in real time and keeps going while players are logged out, so progress comes from planning: practicing skills, writing songs, booking gigs, recording and touring between cities. Results depend on timing and strategy more than constant presence, and checking in a few times a week can be enough.

Nearly everything that happens is player-driven, from bands and record companies to relationships, scandals and community events organized on the forums. The game is recommended for adults because of its mature themes. It is free to play, with optional VIP and company packages and paid perks for characters.
