Bootleggers is a browser game set in the Prohibition-era criminal underworld. Players commit crimes for cash and experience, steal cars, rob businesses and work up through the ranks of organized crime.
Much of the money comes from moving booze between states, which works best when players team up. Organized crimes require several players working together and pay out large experience rewards. Players can also invest in a stock market, bank their money and join crews that compete for power and protect each other.
The game is text-based, runs in the browser without a download and is free to play. Its homepage credits Kyle Kroff Entertainment as the developer, and the game has a long-running community that has played it for years. New players can register directly on the site and start climbing the ranks right away.
