NationStates

A nation simulator where you answer daily policy dilemmas and your country's society changes based on your choices.

Overview

NationStates was created by Australian author Max Barry in 2002 to promote his novel Jennifer Government. Players found a nation, choose a starting political leaning, and then respond to issues: short scenarios with several opposing positions. Each decision changes statistics such as civil rights, economy and political freedom, and the nation's description evolves over time.

There is no combat. The social side happens in regions, where nations form communities with their own governments, forums and roleplay, and in the World Assembly, where players propose and vote on resolutions. Some regions engage in a political game of invading and defending other regions.

The game is free in the browser and supported by ads and optional paid site supporter status. More than ten million nations have been created.
