Overview

Star Trek Online is set in the years after the Next Generation era films and later branches out into other periods of the franchise. Players choose the Federation, the Klingon Empire or the Romulan Republic, or start in the Dominion or Discovery era, and serve as the captain of their own ship.

Play is split between space combat, where players manage shields, power levels and weapon arcs, and ground missions with a team of bridge officers. Missions are delivered as story episodes, many voiced by actors from the shows. Task force operations provide group content, and a large ship collection is a key long-term goal.

Fleets work as guilds and can build up shared starbases. Crafting and research happen through duty officer assignments and the R&D system. The game is free to play on PC and consoles, with a store that sells ships, lockbox keys and cosmetics.
